Welcome to CulebraChildren.org
El Centro de Apoyo a la Familia is a non-profit, non-denominational organization providing free educational,
recreational and counseling services to the entire Culebrense community. It is operated under the auspices of
the Holy Cross Dominican Sisters and is administered by Sisters Teresa and Leticia Fontanez. The Center depends
solely on donations and grants.
The services offered at the Center are made possible entirely from grants, monthly and annual contributions from
caring and committed individuals.
A DREAM COME TRUE
In 1989 after Hurricane Hugo swept across Culebra, the Dominican Sisters came to offer their help and
support to the island community. They quickly became aware of many needs and decided to permanently move
here.
In 1993 the Sisters established el Centro de Apoyo a la Familia. They identified many problems resulting
from the poverty and isolation of the island. Records also told of a high incidence of school dropouts and
a lack of motivation and opportunity. Their many programs try to address these and other needs.
Their services do not discriminate because of race or religion. The program is built on the hope that this
project is like a seed in fertile ground that will grow and give abundant fruit for the benefit of the entire
Culebra community and the glory of God.
