Jaime Rivera Educational Fund
The Center also administers this fund instituted to honor the memory of a long-time Culebrense. The Fund's
purpose is to offer financial assistance to students who need to travel to the main island to attend college.
Approximately one hundred dollars a month is made available to help with transportation, room and board.
The student must qualify for this fund and also submit quarterly reports and maintain a high grade average.
Psychological Services
A psychologist comes once a week to provide individual and family counseling. Some of this expertise includes:
school evaluations, behavioral and learning problems, trauma issues, drug dependency, depression, marriage and
bereavement counseling. These free, on-island psychological services are most important to the community. The
only other option would be to travel to the main island which would be difficult due to distance, time and high
cost.
At present, the psychologist is limited to working with eight clients; but hopefully funding for an additional
day will become available.
Pastoral Services & Religious Education
As part of their religious mission, the Sisters offer catechism classes, help with the liturgy at the local
Catholic Church and visit the sick and elderly.
